Here we introduce staff members working at Guesthouse Shubou-Tamajiman.
【Manager】Shotaro Ishikawa
I want the world to know about attractive sake and Japanese cuisine.
Reason for Joining Shubou-Tamajiman
In my previous job, I worked at an izakaya, and I had many opportunities to interact with customers from overseas.
“I want more foreigners to enjoy Japanese culture and Japanese food.” The thoughts that grew made me join Shubou-Tamajiman.
What I Value in My Work
My first priority is to provide customer service that satisfies customers, saying, “I’m glad I came” and “I’m glad I stayed”.
At the same time, I value creating an environment where our staff can work happily and lively.
Improving the atmosphere of the entire guest house and I would like to warmly welcome guests.
How to Spend Free Time
I’m an indoor person, so I spend a lot of time at home watching movies, anime, and playing shogi.
When I have time, I also like taking walks along the Tama River while feeling nature.
When I go out to eat with my friends, I enjoy Japanese sake and shochu at Japanese restaurants.

We want you to enjoy Japanese culture through sake and the tea ceremony.
Reason for Joining Shubou-Tamajiman
I have been deeply interested in Japanese culture and sake since I started learning Japanese tea ceremony, when I was in 3rd year in high school.
Before joining Shubou-Tamajiman, I was working as a hotel staff in Hokkaido, but I was thinking about working abroad in the future.
I thought that would be a better environment, like a more friendly, close one with guests.
While I was thinking like that, I knew about Shubou-Tamajiman, then thought that I might be able to send information about Japanese tea ceremony culture or Japanese culture to the world from here, so I decided.
What I Value in My Work
I think communicating with our guests is very important.
If I see a guest who doesn’t seem to understand something, I will proactively talk to them.
I always think about how I can make our guests happy, how I can make them joyable, and what they want me to do and so on.
How to Spend Free Time
My hobbies are training at the gym and snowbording.
I feel happy that my baby is getting bigger every time I train, and I enjoy talking to my muscles.
In winter I go to Nagano to snowboading.
Message to Our Guests
Fussa city, which is a little far from the center of Tokyo, may not have the opportunity to visit on a daily basis.
In the west part of Tama area, there are many spots where you can enjoy things like base side street (along to Route 16) , campgrounds, tent saunas, and playing in the river.
Get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and enjoy a relaxing time in a place rich in nature.
Shubou-Tamajiman is a guest house where guests can share their experiences in the west part of Tama area.
We look forward to welcoming you.
【Concierge】Fumiya Ishikawa
Cherish “Once-in-a-lifetime chances”.
Reason for Joining Shubou-Tamajiman
Before joining Shubou-Tamajiman, I was living a backpacker life abroad.
While traveling around the world, I learned that there are many foreigners who want to know about Japanese culture and attractive things.
While staying at a community-based hotel, I felt the unique charm of a hotel where the distance between the guests and the staff is close.
These experiences gave birth to my dream of spreading Japanese culture and charm to people around the world, which led me to encounter Shubou-Tamajiman.
What I Value in My Work
I try to create a warm space so that guests will want to come again.
It can be the warmth of wood that you can feel from the building, or the warmth that comes from interacting with the staff and other guests.
In addition, considering the current situation where the sales of sake in Japan are decreasing year by year, we are struggling every day, to let as many people as possible know the culture and deliciousness of sake.
We would like to provide opportunities for people to get to know the surrounding towns, people, and Japanese culture, based on “accommodations where you can enjoy sake”.
How to Spend Free Time
On my days off, I often relax by watching dramas and movies at home and meeting with friends.
There are days when I take a walk, relax in a nearby hot spring, and then enjoy sake and food at an izakaya.
I also like traveling abroad, so if I can take a long vacation, I would like to go to England, Belgium, and Canada.
Message to Our Guests
West Tokyo, where Shubou-Tamajiman is located, is about an hour from the city center, where you can experience the richness of nature that you wouldn’t expect to be in Tokyo.

The charm of Shubou-Tamajiman is that you can chat with other guests, bring your favorite sake, and spend your time freely.

【Founder】Masakatsu Kitamura
Take everything positively, cherish relationships.
Reason for Founding Shubou-Tamajiman
As of 2022, there are about 1,000 sake breweries nationwide, but more than 90% of them are small businesses.
Due to the increase in demand for alcohol other than sake and the declining birthrate and aging population, the domestic sales volume of sake has decreased to one-third of its peak in 1975.
For sake breweries to survive, they need to focus on exporting sake overseas and developing new products.
On the other hand, in 2013, “Japanese food” was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage due to the boost of the health boom overseas.
However, most Japanese restaurants overseas are run by Chinese and Korean companies, and the current situation is far from pure Japanese food.
Under such circumstances, in 2016, the Japanese government formulated the “Tourism Vision to Support Tomorrow’s Japan”.
The goal is to improve the environment for accepting foreign visitors to Japan, and to accept 60 million foreign visitors to Japan by 2030.
I thought, “This is a great chance for foreigners to get to know real Japanese food and Japanese culture!”
On July 17th, 2021, we opened the guesthouse “Shubou-Tamajiman” where you can enjoy authentic Japanese food and Japanese culture along with delicious sake on the premises of the Ishikawa Sake Brewery, which has been around since the Edo period.
In the future, we plan to open chain stores on the premises of sake breweries all over the country.
Fearures of Shubou-Tamajiman
At Shubou-Tamajiman, we keep in mind to provide homey hospitality so that all our customers can think, “It was delicious,” “It was fun,” and “I want to come again.”
After enjoying authentic Japanese food with delicious sake, you can rest in a comfortable capsule bedroom.
You can also read or work in the lounge, or relax in the courtyard tent sauna.
We are also planning events and parties to make it easier for customers to exchange travel information.
